Metal systems we install

Three metal categories for Florida homes.

Metal isn’t one thing — standing-seam and metal shingle are different products with different price points, aesthetics and installation methods. We’ll show you actual samples during the inspection.

Standing-seam metal

The pro-grade metal system. Interlocking panels, concealed fasteners, industry-leading wind and water performance. Modern, clean aesthetic.

Metal shingles

Metal panels shaped like traditional shingles or tile — the metal advantage with a look that matches traditional architecture.

Coastal-rated systems

Aluminum or coated systems specifically rated for salt-air exposure, essential within a few miles of the coast.

Why metal in Florida

Four reasons Florida homeowners keep switching.

Hurricane-grade wind ratings

Top-tier metal systems carry the highest wind-uplift ratings available for residential roofing — a real difference in Florida wind zones.

40–70 year lifespan

The longest-lifespan residential roof. Well-installed metal often outlives two shingle roofs.

Insurance premium benefits

Many carriers offer premium discounts for wind-mitigation-rated metal systems — ask your agent before you file.

Solar-panel ready

Standing-seam metal is the preferred substrate for solar — panels can be clamped without penetrating the roof.

How it works

Four steps to a metal roof.

  1. Free inspection

Roof geometry, existing substrate, exposure and any wind-mitigation opportunities.

  2. System selection

We show you actual metal samples, walk through cost/lifespan tradeoffs, and write the itemized quote.

  3. Schedule + permits

Metal has longer material lead times than shingle. We give you a real start date at contract signing.

  4. Install & warranty

Precision-cut and installed to manufacturer spec. Warranty documents delivered at closeout.

What’s included in every metal install

The line items that separate a good metal install from a leaky one.

  • Full tear-off of the old system
  • Deck inspection and repair as needed
  • High-temp synthetic underlayment (metal-specific)
  • Panels cut and formed to your roof geometry
  • Concealed-fastener install (on standing-seam systems)
  • New flashings, drip edge, and ridge closures matched to the panel finish
  • Manufacturer material and finish warranty (typically 30–50 years)
  • Castilla workmanship warranty
  • Final inspection + photo archive at closeout

Metal Roofing FAQ

Is metal loud when it rains?

No. Modern metal roofs are installed over a full underlayment and (usually) a solid deck — the sound is not meaningfully louder than shingle. The old “rain-on-tin-roof” sound comes from open-deck barns, not residential installations.

Does metal get too hot in Florida sun?

Reflective metal finishes actually reduce heat gain compared to dark shingle, and can lower cooling costs. Cool-roof-rated metal is available if energy performance is a priority.

How much more does metal cost than shingle?

Typically 2–3× the cost per square foot upfront. Over the full life of the roof (metal often lasts 2–3× longer than shingle), the per-year cost is often comparable or lower — and that’s before insurance and energy benefits.

Will metal rust in coastal salt air?

Standard steel systems within a few miles of the coast can corrode. We install coastal-rated aluminum or specifically-coated steel systems for salt-air exposure — the correct product choice is what prevents rust.

Can lightning strike a metal roof?

Metal roofs do not attract lightning. If lightning does strike, metal actually disperses the energy safely (better than combustible materials). This is a persistent myth — not a real concern.

Can I get solar with a metal roof?

Yes, and standing-seam metal is the preferred solar substrate. Panels clamp directly to the seam without roof penetrations, which preserves warranty and simplifies future maintenance.
